Week 8 : Alejandra
Night Women by Edwidge Danticat is a poetic and rhythmic short story. The language in the piece is beautiful although it speaks of prostitution. The narrator, a mother and prostitute, poetically speaks of her profession and son. Whimsical imagery describes her thoughts and nights, “There is a place in Ville Rose where ghost women ride the crests of waves while brushing the stars out of their hair.” There are an array of metaphors and similes, from images of butterflies to women with “open flesh wounds”.
