Week 7: Alejandra
My hearts racing, and I’m all flustered and I can’t shake off the fear. I began reading “Men Under Water” not truly convinced that I would enjoy it. “Rules of the Game” did little for me, and I had settled on the thought that this week's readings were just not for me. I managed to get through, finding various of the narrator's thoughts interesting and deep, some relatable, “The rest of the world has already accomplished much since waking, and laid down foundations for the accomplishment of much more. We have accomplished nothing. But neither have we yet lost everything....” However, when I reached page 339, the pool diving scene, I became so fearful that Gunther was going to kill Reggie. I hadn’t realized how attached I had become to the narrator, or how his descriptions of Gunther had made me fearful of him. Looking back I realize how much the narrator let us into his thoughts, and how much his vast detailed descriptions built the story.
