Men Underwater

This is Lena.

The short story "Men Underwater", by Ralph Lombreglia, is told in the first person. The reader only learns about the main character indirectly through his actions, through his thoughts, or by his interactions with other characters. The narrator's name is brought up by the fifth page and only because it is said by another character, Gunther. The narrator talks only about himself in reference to Gunther and how he and his life are affected by Gunther and his character. The voice of "I " that is so indirectly personal is very significant because by the end it leads to the narrator's epiphany and underlines the narrator's false bias prospective of Gunther. This ends up underlining the importance of narration as a whole.
